This song morphed into its own monster. The first few lines were throw aways from PTSD. I loved the lyrics, but the song was too long. So I waited for everyone in the house to go to sleep (since my office is actually the living room), poured a glass of Espolon tequila with a splash of lime juice, and started writing with no expectations. Four more glasses later I had my song. I had the idea to use quotes and spiritual scriptures in the chorus rather than a catchy hook, because I felt that it would drive home the meaning of the song. Lex’s deep and raspy voice would be the perfect mechanism to deliver them.
